The Lowdown On Hwa Chong Gymnastics

First of all, it is all tough work. Every single award was earned through hard work. It is not like table tennis or badminton where hard work was not enough and talent was highly important. No, in gym as long you have a good sense of balance and control and then all you need to do is just train 5 days a week.

Next, there is always physical training whether you are physically weak or strong. I agree it is a really efficient way of increasing the fitness of every gymnasts. What is bad about it is that they do it every single day so when you return home, you will be really tired and lazy to do work.

Coaches are a major pain. They are simply, totally, undeniably, absolutely HORRIBLE! The coaches scold you when you accidentally make a mistake and you will be punished. But that is still okay, what is horrible is when they throw you a coach who knows nothing about Trampoline. He just tells you all the obvious stuff like jump higher and tighten your body, but nothing about the technique.

Then there is the whipping. Once in a while, the head coach gives us something like an examination in which we are to go through the process of the actual competition day. So, if you don't do well, let's just say you will experience problems when trying to sit down. However if the entire team messes up or not follow instructions, then you get the parallel bar treatment.

So what is the parallel bar treatment? Basically you sit perpendicular to the parallel bars, and then the coach lifts up one bar. One then slips his legs underneath that raised bar before it is pressed down hard on your knees. You might be thinking: Hey, that is not very bad, I could probably handle it. But the story does not end there. The coach will then proceed to lift the other bar, causing your legs to be bent in the other direction. Not fun.

Luckily, the day when the coach decided to do that to the entire C division trampoline except Lai Heng, I was not there because I had 3rd Language. There were people who cried because of the pain! So I happened to still have my "virginity".

Well that is that for now.

The life of a gymnast.

Front Of The Class

I saw this movie on 23 January 2010. It immediately struck me as a good movie. It was truly inspirational and motivational. So the story begins with an introduction of the boy, Brad Cohen, and his companion, which turns out to be the Tourette Syndrome. It was a syndrome which gave the boy tics, twitches and made the boy create funny noises like barking. The boy was really despised in class by his teachers due to his constant interruptions, thinking that he was a troublemaker, doing everything on purpose.

Wherever Cohen went, there were always people glaring at him for his tics, which really was not his fault. However nobody seemed to acknowledge that fact and just when one thought he was just gonna have to give up his dreams because of his misfortune, a life-changing person appeared in his life.

It was the principal. He knew of Cohen's problem and decided to help the poor little kid. He told Cohen to attend a concert despite knowing that he might disrupt the performance. After the concert, the principal called Cohen up the stage. He then fired many questions at Brad, who answered in accordance, explaining his situation. The schoolmates then gained a better understanding of Cohen and learnt to accept him as just another student who happens to bark.

However when Cohen stepped into the working society he was not well accepted due to his "illness". The prejudice towards him was not even obscured or hidden. It was put as bluntly as possible like "You don't get the job if you keep making the sounds." Schools simply did not want teachers who keep making noises to teach students. The really sad part is when they do not even look at Cohen's capabilities but only at the syndrome.

Luckily for Cohen, after interviewing 24 schools, there was finally one which was willing to see past the disability to get at the ability. And before you know it, Cohen got the job and just taught the students really well. He taught so well that he received A Best Teacher Award. He also managed to get married and lead a happy life.

Now the reason I actually created a post about this movie is because I find there to be a strong link between the discrimination in "To Kill A Mockingbird" and the discrimination in "Front Of The Class". For the former, the society is biased against the blacks. Chances were not given to the blacks because they were different. In the latter, the society was biased against the disabled. Chances were that the people with syndromes would not get a job.

In conclusion, prejudice will exist in this world even if the politicians tried to change that fact with policies. So to the people who often complain, "It is not Fair!" trust me when I say this, "The world had not been fair, is not fair and will not be fair."

The Pig Returns

As most of you may already know either from the papers or the Mcdonalds outlets, it has produced a Chinese Zodiac collection for the nearing Chinese New Year. However, instead of a pig in the tenth place, its was a cupid Doraemon.

It turns out that Mcdonalds feared offending the Muslims, since they were not allowed to feed on the meat of the pig, and therefore did not put the pig in the collection. But this move greatly upset the Chinese as some who were born in the year of the pig could not buy their animal sign. Others were also unable to complete the "real" collection due to the replacement of the pig.

It is quite understandable as to why this decision was made; we did not need anymore racial riots or tension. But in this case, Mcdonalds was a little too paranoid. First of all, it is just a TOY, NOT FOOD! Second of all, The twelve zodiac animals are part of our long, long, long Chinese history and culture so how could Mcdonalds so easily rewrite history in mere minutes, maybe seconds! Who do they think they are, God?

In conclusion, Mcdonalds should not have made such a careless decision, and should have considered the feelings of more than 3 million Chinese out of the total 4.7 million Singaporeans. Hence, I fully support the decision of bringing back the pig into the zodiac collection.

An Introduction Of Myself

1. I am a BOY. You might find this odd as most start off with their name but for for those who do not know me and thought I was a girl, this would make me angry, really ANGRY!

2. My name is Bao Jianda. Some call me simply Bao or Ah Bao which is all really fine with me as it gives a sense of friendliness, don't you all agree?

3. The date when I was born is 20/04/1996. The cool thing about being born on this day is that I get to be both Aries and Taurus because the horoscopes can never pinpoint the exact day. So while others get to read only one horoscope, I get to read two!

4. Now my hobbies are playing table tennis, listening to music and reading. I make it a point to play one hour of Ping Pong every week, because it gets my mind off school for a while and really just relaxes me. I also like rock and pop music and occasionally smooth music. Some of my favourites are Canon rock, No Surprise and Halfway Gone. I like reading Manga, for example Naruto and One Piece and novels like The Godfather, The Hunger Games and the Harry Potter Series.

5. My EP3 is Gymnastics, not those parallel bars and vault(too tough for someone of my physique) but the trampoline. It is quite fun as you jump about, but tough when you have to do physical training and repeat the routine. It is also quite exhausting when I have to go there 4 hours a day and 5 times a week before the competition.

6. As we all know, humans all have their likes and dislikes. For me, I like sleeping, watching good movies, Maths and any other subject which does not require too much mugging or memorizing. I also really happen to enjoy Scrabble, a board game which involves playing words. I dislike doing chores, running long distances(takes all the breath out for me) and most of all, memorizing a lot of information and facts.
Well, there you have it: An Introduction Of Bao Jianda
